"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder...

June 30, 2011- Today Kirby joined the Air Force Reserves.  The girls and I went with him to the office in Jacksonville, where he (and two other men) signed the papers and were sworn in by an officer from Camp Lejeune.  Kirby was the oldest one there, so it was a little funny to see him standing up there with the young bloods!  The officer swearing them in is in the Marines, and he got mixed up on the oath and they had to do it twice.  The girls were absolutely terrible while we were there- cried and carried on and I had to drag them out more than once.  They gave those military folks a true battle experience!  :)

Everyone keeps asking how I feel about all of this... truth be told, I don't think it's become real yet.  The plan is for him to be stationed at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, and it will only be once a month, so that part isn't a big deal.  The catch is that he will be gone from January to May for training (we'll get to go see him once during that time), and that there is always a possibility of deployment.  It's all very surreal at this point... I'm extremely proud of him for going after his dream and for serving our country, but I know it will be hard to be apart when the time comes.  For now, I'm just ignoring that part!
