"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now HOPE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

Summer break, day one...

School's out for summer!  Now that I'm not teaching and am instead home full-time, summer break doesn't quite have the same appeal.  Our first week has kicked off with the husband on military leave in California, a wild four year old, a cranky four month old, and a sick nine year old... Whew.

So, here is how we spent our first (and very rainy) day of the first week of summer.  First, we set up our reading journals and made our summer reading lists.  Among our summer reads are Mr. Popper's Penguins, Ramona and her Father, and Charlotte's Web.  Each day the girls write (or draw) about what they read that day in their reading journals- Mom's way to hopefully help them retain what they're reading!

Next, we had a surprise visit from the great grandparents.  Papa sat and brushed Rae's hair and GrandBon fed Harper while Maddie entertained us all...

Unfortunately, all of that only got us to lunchtime- ahh!  So Mom broke out the coolest thing ever for a rainy summer day... Blanket forts!  And in case you're wondering, blanket forts make a big mess but make for hours of big fun for the big girls.  While they enjoyed their new fortress, Harper did my favorite thing to do on a rainy day- slept!

And that is how this house full of girls spent this yucky, dreary summer day.  Not overly exciting, but my little people seemed pretty content with the day!

Oh yea, and what day would be complete without... Cake?!

Looking forward to tomorrow...
